The Daveluy Prize won by Degréane Horizon’s Radars & Innovations Manager!

Baptiste Domps, “Radars & Innovations” manager at Degréane Horizon, won the Daveluy prize for his thesis on the early detection of extreme environmental phenomena by radar.

Organized by the Center for Higher Education of the Navy (CESM), the Admiral Daveluy Maritime Strategy Prize rewards, since 1994, the best university work focusing on maritime or naval issues to promote the French Navy in the academic and scientist.

Baptiste Domps is the winner of this 2022 prize for his thesis on the early detection of extreme environmental phenomena by radar. It was carried out within the Mediterranean Institute of Oceanology (MIO) of the University of Toulon. The award ceremony took place on Monday, December 12 at the military school in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the French Navy.

Several scientific collaborations emerge as a result of this thesis. A first, in the context of the detection of tsunamis and storm surges, is underway with the University of Townsville (Australia). A second concerns the atmospheric applications (turbulence measurements) mentioned and anti-drones or anti-stealth. Finally, a third concerns the use of current measurements at the surface of the sea by synthetic aperture radar (SAR) space, in combination with measurements by radar on the ground. The host company Degreene Horizon and the MIO laboratory wish to continue their collaboration in these different objectives.
